Manly Daily, Thursday 25th May 2010 - Free Hospital Shuttle

Making appointments or visiting family and friends at Manly or Mona Vale hospitals has been made easy following the launch of a free shuttle bus service. Run by a non-profit organisation Manly Warringah Pittwater Community Transport, the pilot service will operate between the two hospitals twice a day, five days a week. It is a fixed-route service and will have set-down points at Mona Vale, Narrenbeen, Collarory, Dee Why, Harbord, Queenscliff and Manly. The first shuttle bus leaves Mona Vale Hospital at 11.30am, arriving at Manly Hospital at 12.15pm, while the afternoon service departs at 4.15pm, arriving at 5pm. MWPCT manager Kain Allen said they were approached by the Northern Sydney Central Coast Area Health Services to help fill a gap in transport services between the northern beaches hospitals. "This service is available to anyone needing to use the hospital facilities for appointments and for anyone wishing to visit family or friends that may be in hospital," he said. "People do not have to book but they do have to be visiting or using the hospital facilities." When the pilot is finished a decision will be made by the area health service whether to extend the service. Other services include fortnightly shopping trips to Warringah Mall, Forestway and Warriewood centres. To book for the royal North Shore or Mater Hospitals, call the MWPCT on 9971 5110.

Manly Daily, Thursday 8th April 2010 - New Hospital Shuttle

Getting to and from the Royal North Shore and Mater hospitals has now been made easy following the launch of a northern beaches shuttle service. Run by a non profit organisation Manly Warringah Pittwater Community Transport, the five-day-a-week service is aimed at helping the frail, elderly, people with a disability, carers and those with no transport. People can either make their way to the service's Dee Why depot or arrange for a car to pick them up and take them to it. Manager Kain Allen said the service is designed to make it easier for people to meet doctors' appointments as well as visit family and friends in hospital. "often public transport is to much" he said. "It becomes too long a day for people who sometimes have to catch up to three buses to get there. What we do is provide a door-to-door service and that extra bit of help, such as people needing an arm up their driveway." Mr Alen said the price of the service - $20 if picked up from their home or $10 from the depot - made it an afforable option. Operating on the northern beaches for more than 25 years, the MWPCT provides a range of transport options for the aged, people with disabilities and the transport disadvantaged. other services include fortnightly shopping trips to Warringah Mall, Forestway and Warriewood shopping centres. To book for the Royal North Shore or Mater hospitals call the MWPCT on 9971 5110.
